Brathay 10 in 10 and Windermere Marathon

Fundraising tips for runners

Useful fundraising tips to help you encourage as many people as possible to sponsor you!

Helpful fundraising tips for online fundraising sites

The following suggestions are aimed at users of online fundraising websites, however the principles also apply to other forms or raising sponsorship (paper forms etc).

Please start raising sponsorship as soon as you can. You are much more likely to raise funds during the months leading up to the event rather than the weeks following the event.

  • Think about your personal message – turn it into a story.
  • Put a video and extra photos on your page. Keep it up to date so people come back and send it to their friends.
  • Find out how your money will help Brathay’s work with young people so you can tell your supporters.
  • Email people in groups and personalise your message. Get generous donations on your page first. Send the email around pay day!
  • Put your page address in your email signature. Use a donate badge.
  • Promote your page with social media tools like Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.
  • Give out your page address on cards - eg Moo minicards.
  • Get your page featured in the local press. Send a press release to your local paper and radio station - include your page address.
  • Send fun reminder emails asking people to donate. Update your page and keep fundraising after the event.
  • Last but not least - thank people! On your page, in an email, with a card, on your blog, Facebook or Twitter – make them feel good for supporting you!

  • What runners say

"Everything about this race is fabulous. A location from heaven, wonderful course, so much fun and happiness round the route, encouraging marshals, loads to do and see at Brathay - and all in a great cause to help Brathay in its work with disadvantaged young people". Marathon participant 2011

  • The Body Rehab
  • Fundraising request

We recognise that in the current difficult economic climate raising sponsorship from family, friends, colleagues and your local community can be challenging. All we are asking is that runners do what they can to make some contribution to support Brathay’s cause.

Every pound you raise in sponsorship will go towards helping those young people most in need. All contributions, large or small, will be greatly appreciated.

We can’t do it without supporters like you – thank you!
