Brathay 10 in 10
“An epic challenge that will require an epic strength of mind” Bear Grylls – Adventurer & Everest climber
Back in 2007 Sir Christopher Ball, a fellow of Brathay Trust, suggested that the Brathay Windermere Marathon organisers introduce a 10 marathons in 10 days endurance running event – 262 miles over 10 days around England’s largest lake! In its first year eight dedicated athletes established benchmark times and developed a model of support required to complete 10 marathons over consecutive days.
The runners in the 10 in 10 get to know the course intimately with the stunning scenery helping the miles go by.

Passing through woodland and along the lake shore, always with views of the Lakeland fells, this road marathon certainly deserves the name given to it by runners – The Beautiful Marathon!
This distinctive event, now approaching its fourth year, is now regularly described as “….the UK’s ultimate endurance running event.”
Guinness World Records have recognised the fastest 10 marathons on consecutive days as a category. Steve Edwards established the initial world record time in 2008, completing the event in an impressive accumulated time of 35hrs 20’45”. At the 2009 event a new record was set by Adam Holland who ran the 10 marathons in 32hrs 47’03” – a staggering average time of 3hrs 16’42” for each marathon. Both of these athletes are returning this year to try to beat the record.
Legendary fell runner Joss Naylor, MBE, will again be supporting the event as Patron of the 10 in 10. Joss fires the starting gun on the runners’ first marathon and will be on the finish line to welcome them back after running 262 miles over 10 days.
The event is held to raise funds to support Brathay Hall Trust’s work with underprivileged children and young people. Runners raise sponsorship as part of their contribution to improving the lives of those young people who are most disadvantaged or vulnerable.
